Avoid all lantern-carrying guards until after ringing the bell — if one spots you, you are ejected from the grounds and must pay the initial guard another 50z to re-enter
Inside McNeil Manor
Torast uses Sleep frequently. If you have the Silver Knife, equip it — it deals major damage to all ghosts in this manor.

Boss: AMALGAM (HP 520, recommended lv 9) — formed from all the McNeil ancestor ghosts — Silver Knife deals major damage — watch for Astral Warp (15–20 to one character) and occasional Sleep

Balio and Sunder attack at the Cedar Woods house — this fight cannot be won — do not waste healing items; Rei can use Pilfer once or twice if you want extra items before going down

Boss: MUTANT (HP 500, recommended lv 13) — extremely weak to fire; fire attacks also destroy its 250 HP/turn regeneration — use Momo's Flame Chrysm and Ryu's Flame dragon form throughout; keep the fire pressure on until it falls
With Peco in party, return to the [?] forest north of the Coffee Shop — have Peco kick the rocks to find a Hawk's Ring and a Vitamin in holes underneath.

When asked to leave a hostage, choose Peco — keep your stronger fighters free for the tournament

Get the Flower Jewel BEFORE entering Maekyss Gorge — put Peco in your party and find the [?] area west of the gorge entrance — have Peco kick the tree outside the tent for the Flower Jewel — check the tent drawers for a Wisdom Fruit — then switch Peco OUT of your party — DO NOT sell the Flower Jewel; it is needed for the Meryleep master quest

Quick method: learn Super Combo from Bunyan first — one session where Ryu lands a Super Combo ends training. Then kill Zig in a single hit with a Super Combo (250+ damage, 8+ hits required) — must be a one-hit kill or the fight is called off.
The Lighthouse
Buy at least 1–2 extra Flame Chrysm from Rhapala shops before entering — you sacrifice one per attempt at the valve puzzle inside and cannot complete the dungeon without opening it
Boss: GAZER (HP 1100, recommended lv 17) — normal attack hits all party members for solid damage; Eye Beam hits one for 50+ — Flame Claw is highly effective and negates Eye Beam — Momo casts Protect on the whole party and cures Hypnotize confusion with Panacea — Garr uses regular attacks and Pyrokinesis — inflicting Blind on Gazer doubles your exp reward
The boulder only rolls if the chrysm line leading up the stairs is lit. If it isn't, go back to the first blue switch (the one before the valve room in c84) and hit it.

Boss: DOLPHIN (HP 1200, recommended lv 17) — use Thunder+Defender dragon form for Thunder Claw (300+ damage per hit) — Tsunami cuts everyone's HP in half; Intimidate cancels your turn — Momo casts Protect on herself and Ryu; Nina heals or casts Lightning
Two other rocks in this forest cover holes with a Vitamin and a Hawk's Ring — have Peco kick them too.

Yellow geysers inside the volcano cause confusion and reverse your D-pad controls — cure with Panacea immediately; stepping on lava deals damage but HP will never drop below 1

Boss: HUGE SLUG (HP 2500, recommended lv 22) — immune to physical attacks until a fire attack destroys the protective coating (a single Molotov works if no fire spells are available) — Syphon drains HP — Ryu: cast Shield first, then Force+Flame dragon → Flame Claw throughout — Momo: Flame Chrysm attacks plus Speed and Might assists
Boss: SHROOM / PALET (HP 3000, recommended lv 23) — Ragnarok randomly deals massive or zero damage to all; Head Cracker and Blitz are also dangerous — Ryu: cast Shield at least 3 times first, then Force+Defender/Thorn Warrior dragon → use Focus before each Aura attack — Rei: Pilfer the Wisdom Fruit as the first priority, then normal attacks or Weretiger (use Influence if available) — Momo: Speed and Might on Ryu and Rei, heal throughout

Desert navigation shortcut: from the start, face between the true north star and the fake north star (1 turn right from north) and walk in that direction until you reach the Oasis — drink water when prompted (~twice per night, take a few steps then use one helping) — make camp at daybreak and break camp at nightfall — after every random battle, re-check the stars and re-orient before walking again (random battles can leave you facing the wrong direction) — if lost and out of water, make camp and talk to the rakda to return to base camp
